When Bit.ly is Just Too (or Two) Long

Hat Tip to Adam Ostrow at Mashable.com for turning us on to j.mp as a resource for making even shorter URL’s than those made through Bit.ly.

Actually, according to Adam’s post, “Bit.ly Launches J.mp to Save You Two Characters,” j.mp first appeared to be integrated into Bit.ly’s interface, but now seems to be offering the same features, under a separate domain. J.mp describes itself as, “powered by bit.ly”.

Once you look at both sites, you will see that, in terms of design and layout, the two webpages are almost identical, right down to their sidebar bookmarking tool.

Either way, both are excellent choices when the longer URL just won’t do either esthetically or becauseĀ  of space limitations such as the 140 characters of Twitter.
