Stop juggling. You need a social media plan.
You can’t just Twitter occasionally or upload a YouTube video and expect it to work for you. A blog post or two each month won’t improve your business nor will a Facebook page that you update sporadically. Let’s face it, you really can’t ‘dabble’ in social media marketing and expect to see meaningful results.
Just as importantly, there is no single magic bullet among the social media platforms that will quickly and consistently turn consumers into clients or help you deepen your existing client relationships. You have to do it all and you have to do it with some measure of regularity.
So what do we mean by all?
You need:
- A blog in order to tell your story and educate your market as to who you are and what your business does.
- A Facebook profile so you can share your business persona and a little bit of your personal one; along with pictures, and perhaps videos.
- A Twitter account so you can ‘microblog,’ sending out brief and frequent updates, comments, and invitations to others to comment.
- A LinkedIn profile in order to better define your expertise and experience.
- And to make your message truly viral, you need to be uploading videos to YouTube.
Yes, some of these areas will be more effective than others for you, but that doesn’t excuse you as a consultant, businessperson, or entrepreneur from the need to create a presence on all of them.
Sounds like a tremendous amount of work, but over the upcoming weeks, The Obvious Expert will be sharing with you ways you can do it all without spending a fortune or exploding your brain.
